New Year's ResolutionsOhh…here we go again!  New Year’s Resolutions… Have you gained a few pounds eating all the things you love…you are not alone!  In addition to working out here are some healthy snacking tips to make your resolutions easier for you.

SNACKS:  Replace that slice of baguette with apple, pear or cucumber and top with goat/blue cheese and a dab of cherry jam/fig jam/almond butter, walnut half or drizzle of honey. Try fresh sliced fennel dipped in Balsamic Vinaigrette.  Substitute almond butter for peanut butter.  Greek Yogurt has more protein than regular yogurt because most of the moisture has been drained.  Flavor it up by adding honey, flax seed, nuts, dried fruit, and dark chocolate chips, which are all Anti-oxidants.

DRINKS: Replace one beverage per day with a glass of water. As a matter of fact, why not give up that artificially sweetened drink; its’ not as beneficial as you think.  If you find water a little boring how about adding a slice of lemon, orange, ginger (revs you up and is an anti-inflammatory) or cucumber…ahhh refreshing!  Do you like juicing?  Try this combination: 1 apple, 1 orange (no pith), 1 banana, and pomegranate juice.

TIPS:  Eat smaller portions, have a seat while eating and eat slowly.  Take time out for 3 well-balanced meals a day and please do not substitute drinks and snack bars for meals, they are not real food. Do not skip meals.  For extra protein and vitamins add fish, chicken, vegetables, nuts, and fruits to your salads.
